Q8104 Signed and Dated Rolling Stone/Friendship Quilt
June 6, 1873

This Friendship quilt was designed from a Rolling Stone pattern; with each block bearing a different ink stamped name but all dated June 6, 1873. We may never know the full story behind this quilt, but what a fun project for a history buff to research the names and discover their connection to June 6th of that year! In excellent condition, the 11 ½ inch blocks have been hand pieced with a wonderful Pennsylvania color palette of yellow calico, a c.1860’s madder dyed rust calico, and a lovely medium blue calico. The body of the quilt has been outline hand quilted and the 10 ½ inch border hand quilted with chevrons. All the quilting was completed with brown, blue, or beige thread to match the fabric on the front of the quilt. The ½ binding is a surprising double pink, and the backing is a terrific c.1850 blue print overlaid with tiny red and brown dots. Professionally hand washed by Betsey.
