Q8325 Dresden Plate Quilt

c.1928
82 x 94 inches

$1,800

It is extremely rare to find a c.1928 quilt that is large enough to fit a king size bed. Amazingly this quilt would fit a single, double, queen or king depending on how you turn it. Constructed from blocks, this would have been blocks that the creator could have taken with her wherever she went . The Dresden Plate itself is actually a miniature Dresden Plate pattern. The pattern was copied from china plates made in Dresden, Germany. These quilt blocks are apx 10 1/2 x 10 1/2”, the sashing, between and around the blocks, measures 2” in width, the border is apx 4 1/4” and the binding ,finished by hand, measures 3/8” in width. All piecing is executed by hand including attaching all sashing. Each square uses echo quilting ,usually found on Hawaiian quilts. In addition each piece in the block is outline quilted. The maker of this quilt was proficient enough to do tiny even stitches. The sashing between the blocks is quilted in a rope with leaf design. The border has a mirror image , in a larger scale, of the same pattern. Again, the quilting stitches are tiny and even. Perfect unused condition. Organically hand washed by Betsey and ready to be seen on approval.
