A true masterpiece of design, fabrics and quilting! The creator of this early quilt was not only an incredible worker of applique, but also a designer. I personally have never seen another Antique quilt of this design. Completely hand appliqued and quilted with tiny, perfectly even stitches. Besides every piece being outline quilted, the entire quilt is quilted in a cross hatch diagonal design 3/4" apart. The border measures 8-3/8" with a separately applied 1/4 inch binding in the madder-dyed red calico. Design on the border is a meandering flowered vine. This quilt is so sophisticated and stunning.

For fabrics we have an over-dyed green with pale green design, a madder dyed red with miniature blue hearts, a pale yellow with a miniature pale brown design. The front and backing are a very fine white cotton.

This is the rest of the story, as one would never know, and I guarantee every quilt I sell. Well..when I received this quilt it was what is called a mint quilt...never used and never washed. The reason it was never used..I am surmising, is the fact that an area on the bottom center of one side of the quilt had been damaged..who knows how..that was lost to time. I only restore with same date fabrics and had the exact fabrics she had used!..Yes, the exact fabrics! The quilts on my web page are 95% in original condition. If a quilt is restored I have a silk screen label sewn onto the back so one knows the quilt's story. As usual we have washed this quilt with organic products.
