CQ350 Folk Art Crib Quilt

c. 1880
34 x 42 inches
New York

This little appliquéd folk art crib quilt is so whimsical. A late 19th century rendition of an late 18th century tree of life quilt design. We have here an original turkey red center medallion folk art design. In the last quarter of the 18th century, there was a very sophisticated quilt design and style called the tree of life. This was a chintz Broderie Perse quilt and was created from expensive chintz fabrics. This little quilt is a late 19th century folk art rendition of that style. The center medallion red tree is surrounded by 8 appliquéd red folk art flowers. Appliqued and quilted by hand then finished with a 1/4” separately applied turkey red binding. This quilt is so soft it shows use. A wonderful wall hanging or an original piece for someone’s red and white quilt collection. Organically washed and ready to be sent for your approval.
