Antique Shaker rugs are hard to find, but easy to document. Shakers were the only people who used a crochet backing for their rag or hooked rugs and not burlap. I have been the one to mount this rug. Under most circumstances I choose not to purchase a rug without seeing the back. The reason for this is that the backing must still be soft and not dried out or rotten. Having enjoyed it hanging in my home for some time now, I am now ready to send it off for someone else to treasure.

Measuring 31" X 23" and mounted with a black cotton backing....ready for you to hang or easily remove the backing if you wish actually to use it as a rug. This Antique Shaker rag rug has colors of red, blue, off white with a smidgen of orange. Fibers are a combination of cotton and wool. The crochet backing was created from a natural color heavy weight cotton. The rug appears not to have been used.
