CONCS1 Victorian Crazy Quilt
c.1885
66-1/2 x 84 inches

$3,900
One way a heavily embellished Crazy Quilt is judged is by the amount of
different embellishing stitches used. One hundred different stitches is
the pinnacle of designs...well, we are way over that on this quilt! On
a scale of 1 to 10 this is a 15!!!
There are eighty 8" x 8" blocks, each heavily embellished and having a
prominent center of a flower, plant or scene. We have dress silks,
ribbons, cushion silks, silk velvet and fine drapery fabrics...all silk!
Here are hundreds of different embellishment stitches in different
embroidery textures. Even though the design of each block is the
same...you do not know this because of the different fabrics, ribbons,
etc. used in each block. There are no two blocks even similar. One could
spend hours looking over this quilt and still see something yet
undiscovered.
There is a 3/8" separately applied binding in the same peachy silk as
the backing ...the creator of this quilt was from a very well off family.
Family name upon purchase.
