I do believe that this quilt was made as a wedding present and therefore too precious to use! Saved for almost 200 years and in perfect original condition.

The format of the design is from England where center medallion quilts were originally created. With this format, rows of different patterns emanate out from the center square.

The center square measures 32" X 32" and is comprised of rows of various triangles. The square in the center of the center square measures 7" X 7". Inside the larger square are triangles that measure 6-1/4" X 4-1/2" X 4-1/2". The smaller triangles measure 4" X 2-1/2" X 2-1/2", and the tiny triangles measure 1" X 3/4" X 3/4".

There are more rows of creative triangles emanating out. The next border measures 9", then an 11" border..all created from triangles. The outside border, in white, measures 8" and has appliqued hearts encircling the entire quilt. Each heart is apx. 5" side to side. A separately applied 1/8" white binding finishes this amazing textile art. All work was executed by hand.

The quilting design is more easily seen from the back due to the intricate patterns. The entire main section of this quilt is quilted in the herringbone design with rows 3/4" apart with a petal design on the main part between the heart border and the center medallion. The outside white border quilting design consists of diagonal rows 1" apart.

This quilt is what is called a mint quilt...never washed and never used. Yes, it is clean, however if you wish me to wash the quilt there will be no extra charge 🙂
