CONGNG1 Broderie Perse Quilt

It has been over 20 years since I have had a Broderie Perse quilt to
sell! A true collector's quilt created by an affluent woman as her mark
of excellence. These quilts were created from fine Chintz fabrics of
flowers, birds or animals. Each design was carefully cut out and then
appliqued onto a backing with tiny, tiny perfect "buttonhole" stitches
usually executed with silk thread. Most of these fabrics were printed in
India for the Anglo-American market's wealthy society.
There are 12 blocks each measuring 15" X 15", with an additional 4
blocks measuring 7" X 15". I have a feeling that these extra blocks
were added to fit a specific bed, and placed on the side next to the wall.
Each block has a totally different floral applique. This quilt appears
to have been hardly used and is still in unwashed condition. There are 2
faint stains that one may not see in the photograph.
The sashing measures 7" in width and is possibly a much earlier fabric.
The quilting in the blocks and the sashing were executed in the
Herringbone design 1/2" to 3/4" apart. The binding goes from the
back to the front and measures only 1/8". The manner of the quilt's
binding tells me that it was not created in New England and was probably
made in the south. The backing is a very fine linen and possibly homespun.
I am happy to send this quilt, for your approval..with free shipping.
