A wonderful Depression Era quilt that will fit a queen or king size bed!!
So rare to find a quilt of this era of this size. There are 20
Dresden Plate blocks each measuring 16-1/2" square. There are 20 petals
in each plate which measure 4" X 1-1/4" at small end and 2-1/4" at the
top of each piece. A huge array of pastel prints has created a very
soothing feeling.
This is carried out further in the border, the design of which is so
unusual. The border measures 8" in width; half of the width has ice cream
cone shape petals measuring 5" in length. The binding is this
happy, happy design. The binding measures 3/8" and is separately
applied. What makes this binding so unusual and special is the fact that
a normal binding is from one fabric and this binding is comprised of
strips measuring from 5" to 7" of different fabrics that are on the
plates sewn together to create a fun and creative binding.
The quilting design of the petals is a double line with perfect
stitches. The center of the plate has diagonal quilting 3/4" apart.
Outside the ring has a two-leaf pattern in each corner with the same
design around the whole perimeter of the quilt. All quilting was
definitely executed by a proficient quilter.
The quilting is so perfect that this piece could be reversed, creating an
all white quilt.
Now organically hand washed and ready for you to see. There are a few
petals that have been restored by us with fabrics of the same date; the quilt
is in perfect condition.
