CONJS20 Unique Love Apple and Rose Tree Applique Quilt

Sophisticated Folk Art sounds like an oxymoron, however, this is a perfect description of this quilt. Created from an over-dyed solid green, Turkey Red, Chrome Orange, an early Double pink and a very fine white cotton.

The design of the quilt was created so as one series of appliqued patterns would lie in the center of the bed while other patterns would be seen on the sides. A pattern of love apples with a rose in the middle of the main tree trunk. Yes, this is Folk Art! There is both applique and reverse applique work all perfectly executed. A design that is this bold and happy in feeling has me contemplating about this woman's personality. I see her, as the creator of this masterpiece in textile art, as a happy person just full of life and expressing her joy in her needlework!

The applique work is so fine that the stitches can hardly be seen..just perfectly even minuscule stitching. The blocks each measure 24" square with a border measuring 7-1/2" in width which includes a 1/4" separately hand applied binding. The quilting stitches are so tiny and even..just perfect. The quilting design is diagonal crosshatching in a 3/8" grid across the entire main body of the piece. The border is quilted in a double line design ...two lines together 1/4" apart and spaced 5/8" from the next two rows.
