CONJS22 Variation of Rob Peter to Pay Paul, with Flying Geese Border Quilt
c.1850
83 x 87 inches
Franklin County, Pennsylvannia
$2,850

I have no idea what was on the mind of this expert quilt maker when she designed this quilt. Each block is a combination of a four block configuration..then each square is divided into a squared off Diamond in a Square with the center joining block a Broken Dishes pattern. There is a wonderful Flying Geese border 6" in width with each center Madder Dyed Calico triangle measuring 4" X 4" X 6".

The squares have an assortment of very expensive fabrics, Indigo Calico, Madder Dyed Calico (the same as in the border) and a Pink Calico. All blocks are joined with a wonderful Linen, the same is used for the backing. There is a 1/4" separately applied white binding in the same white Linen.

The quilting is over the top! The 4-1/4" sashing has so much diagonal quilting 1/4" apart that it appears stippled! The 9" blocks are quilted in a diagonal grid 3/4" apart. The Flying Geese border is quilted with Echo quilting on the Calico and straight line Echo quilting, forming a right triangle 1/4' apart.

This unusual quilt appears never to have been used, but is now freshly hand washed with an organic product and ready to be sent, for your approval, with free shipping.
