CONJS3 New York Beauty Quilt
c.1930
72 x 96 inches
Northern Virginia
$2,300
Never before have I had the opportunity to have a 20th century New York
Beauty quilt....and one in mint condition! This is known as a 19th
Century design when women prided themselves on executing complex
patterns. Never used and never washed. Yes, as with all our cotton
quilts, we have washed this beauty using organic products. Now clean and
ready for you to enjoy.
This pattern is one of the hardest to construct due to the incredibly
long and skinny triangular points. Completely hand pieced and hand
quilted with tiny, tiny stitches. There are two different size
triangles..one measuring 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1-1/4"...the longest one
measures 1-1/2" x 1-3/4" x 1-5/8" ...just amazing! Each block measures
16" X 17" with the sashing in three sections measuring a total width of
5-1/2"..the strips measure 1-3/4", 2" and 1-3/4. The outer section
contains the points while the strip in the center is an unusual 1930's
calico of the twenties, green, pink and orange apples...two oxymorons!!
The same fabric is used in the 1/4 circle design.
The quilting is also outstanding with an exquisite floral medallion in
each block surrounded with chains and the center embellished with a
double row quilted La Moyne star. The binding is 1/4" turned from the
back to the front. The backing fabric is the same fine white fabric as
used on the front..another unusual finding.

would fit a Queen size bed.
