CONJS9 Dresden Plate Quilt
c.1930
71 x 89 inches
Ohio
$1,600

This Depression era quilt is in perfect unused condition and is set apart from others of the same pattern because of the border. This is the first one of this design that I have ever seen with the same alternating solid and print "cones".

A design that, when executed to this level, takes precise mathematical ability, design sense and expert needlework skills. These "plates" measure 15" in diameter and are formed in blocks measuring 15-1/2" with the points almost touching. The ice cream cone border measures 5-1/2 wide at the deepest point. The deep pink solid cones are the same as the solid points and accent center of the "plates". The alternating "cones" (which is actually a triangle measuring 4-1/2" X 4-1/2" X 3") are a wonderful print of light orange, a deep pink, a light pink and white. The plates are comprised of a large array of c.1930's calicos, stripes and polka dots. Colors are almost all pastels except for three designs: two red polka dots, four navy polka dots and two deep blue geometric designs.

Every piece is outline quilted...The white areas between the Plates are crosshatch quilted in a diagonal 1" grid.

The binding measures 1/4" and is separately hand applied. All work is hand pieced and hand quilted. Due to the design this quilt may be turned in either direction making it possible to fit any bed up to and including a queen size bed.
