CONLC1A Floral Applique "Kit Quilts"

c.1950
73 x 90 inches
New Jersey
$1,100 each, or $1,900 for the pair

Kit quilts were first started in the late 1920's. Companies would send all the necessary material, thread and batting to create a wonderful quilt. The maker did all the work. The quilting design was stamped on the top fabric with tiny blue dots. The fabric for all the applique work was enclosed.

Quilting was usually 1" apart as you see on this happy floral applique. There is crosshatching, quilting following the arc designs, flowers, etc.

With a pair of quilts, usually one was used and the other not used. This applies here with one quilt being unused and one slightly used, but no wear.

The center medallion has a diameter of 23"..the white border after the scallops is 9" deep with a 1/4" separately applied binding finished by hand.

The colors are a complete rainbow of pastel colors.

Due to the fact that this quilt does not have one side that is the top...this quilt may be turned to fit a queen size bed.

Maker's name available upon purchase.

These can be purchased separately or as a pair.
