CONSG2 Folksy Woolen Bassinet Quilt
c.1875
31 x 31 inches
Midwest origin?
$1,500

This Folksy little quilt was, I believe, created during the 1870's. A woolen Bassinet quilt is one I have never seen before. To add to this unusual fact is that it is so Folksy.

Created from 5" woolen blocks that are machine pieced. A folksy 4 heart design is appliqued on top, becoming the center focal point of each group of 4 squares. Even the colors are unusual. We have an Olive Green wool and a Rusty Brown wool bassinet quilt, which would have helped keep a baby warm in a cold climate. The backing is a deep dusty Rose heavy cotton which is turned over to the front creating a 1/8" binding, closed by hand.

The diagonal hand quilting is at least 1" apart. The graphics are amazing...the quilting average. There are just a few moth holes from long ago moths. This in no way detracts from the quilt.
