CONSS6 Amish Checkerboard Quilt

The 4 corner block Early Amish quilts are the most sought after by
collectors. This is not only a perfect early quilt, but a variation of
their popular Trip Around the World pattern that I am calling a
"Checkerboard " design. Making it more special is the fabric used: wool challis!
Each small square in the Checkerboard has 1/2" sides. The entire center
design measures 39" square. There are 729 squares in this design. The
khaki color joining border measures 5-1/4" in width and 52" in length.
The wide outer burgundy border measures 10" in width and 52" in
length. The wide separately applied binding measures 1-1/4" in width. A
whole-cloth backing in a tiny, tiny calico shares with us the fact that the
Amish would never use a print on the front of a quilt, as that would
appear pretentious...but, the backing could be a print as it would not
be seen!
This Amish wool Challis quilt is in perfect unused condition with only
one tiny moth hole to prove the fabric is wool Challis. The quilting is amazing.
