This early bars quilt was created in New Hampshire. A bassinet quilt that is completely original and comprised of apx 3-1/2” wide bars of Turkey red with alternating bars of white fabric. The 1/4” applied binding is the same solid Turkey red. The whole cloth backing is of a c.1840s stripe calico striped design which is very 1840s. we customarily think of a bars quilt as indicative of Amish, however, this bassinet quilt is early New England. A wonderful early quilt which has been diagonally hand quilted and soft from gentle use. This quilt is rare and unusual for New England.
