F155 Unique Olive Branch Design Quilt Fragment
c.1845
35 x 36 inches
Pennsylvania
$650
Early quilts created by affluent families usually backed their quilts
with linen fabric. This fragment is a perfect example of that. I believe
that the quilting thread is also linen. In this case the white front
fabric is also the same linen. The other fabrics are an over dyed Green,
a faded pink calico, and a very creative pink and white stripe, c.1840's
1/4" separately applied binding.
The applique work and the quilting are all executed with tiny, tiny
perfect stitches. All pieces are outline quilted and then echo quilted.
There is so much quilting that the quilt appears stippled. Stippling
means that there is so much quilting that the quilting rows appear
stuffed! The center of this piece is quilted with a beautiful medallion
design.
What a perfect artistically executed pattern for your walls or a
topper for your dining room table.
Little quilts are perfect for that hard to decorate small space.
Now organically washed by hand and ready to be sent for your approval.
