I can picture a very sophisticated young Lady creating this piece in her
formal parlor. The love of embellishment on quilts came to fruition
during the 1880's. This creativity of the quilt is accented with the
miniature Log Cabin blocks. Even the backing is silk...a wonderful
solid gold silk fabric. Other than the Log Cabin Blocks, each square has
2" sides. The double row embellishing stitches are a beige and a blue
silk twist. There are a very few squares that could be restored if one
wishes.
There is also the addition of silk tassels that I have seen on
larger silk quilts of the same era.
