This 48 U.S. States quilt just makes me smile :-). We know the date of this quilt is approximately 1940 and comes directly from the family.
Blocks used in the formation of this quilt are approximately 7-1/2 inches square and are set in a sashing of a very typical green from that era. The sashing measures approximately an inch and 5/8 in width. The embroidery work is wonderfully executed, displaying a variety of all kinds of stitches. Each block shows the flower of the state named. The piecing is done by machine, the 3/4 inch binding is machine topstitched applied. All embroidery, outline and graphic quilting is executed by hand. The quilting was created using a green thread on the white background.
This quilt appears to have been unused and I am the first person to wash it. I have family information upon sale of this West Coast quilt.
The states that I have shown here are the three states in my life...I come from Massachusetts, I lived in Colorado, where I started my company, and now we reside in Maine.
