Q9303 Mosaic in Wool Quilt
c.1890
74 x 92 inches
Maine
$950

A spectacular quilt that is not only graphically wonderful for your wall, but also such a warm and cozy quilt to cuddle up under. All hexagon pieces are created from woolen fabrics, with the backing being a soft cotton flannel in a great stripe/plaid. (optical illusion design.)

This pattern, called a Mosaic, came to us from England and is the precursor to the Depression Era pattern well known as Grandmother's Flower Garden. Each hexagon has 3-1/4" sides, creating a dramatic design.

Pieced by hand in muted colors from woolen fabrics that are solids, plaids, stripes, and tweeds. The cotton flannel backing is turned over from the back to the front, creating a 1-inch binding, staying in proportion to the size of the design. This is a quilt the likes of which I have never seen in 38 Years of my business.
