Q9305 Signature Quilt
c.1860
74 x 76 inches
Pennsylvania or New York
$2,700
I have never seen a Signature Block constructed in this way...on the
diagonal with the dark sections touching. This fabric is a wonderful
deep true Indigo ...and America's favorite quilt color.
There are 25 Signature blocks with solid white joining blocks. The
signature blocks measure 11-1/2 x 12-3/4..the joining white blocks
measure apx. 9-1/4" x 9-1/4". I know these measurements may sound
strange. All piecing and quilting are executed by hand. The solid white
blocks are quilted in a diagonal grid 3/4" apart with small perfect
stitches. The Indigo blocks are quilted in a straight line parallel
pattern 3/4" apart following the direction of each block.
There is a separately hand applied 1/4" binding, in a lighter Indigo
Blue. The backing is a solid white in a very fine linen. This stunning
quilt lets us share some sociology. As these fabrics were very expensive
we can surmise that the quilter was part of an affluent family.
Now organically hand washed and ready to be sent for your approval.
There are 3 very faint spots.
