When looking at this quilt I see stunning graphics, and this
quilt to me exudes happiness....sophistication and happiness...what a
wonderful combination! 🙂 Is it the yellow chimneys that makes me smile?
The Barn Raising Log Cabin Pattern was one of the original patterns in
this catagory. Today there are many variations of this design. Did you
know that this design originated in England? I believe the original
design was the "Straight Furrows" pattern which I have been told is
symbolic of the rows of plantings accross the countryside in England.
Today quilts personify American Folk Art, but take note the concept came
to us from England!
What sets this Log Cabin quilt off from so many of this design...are the
yellow chimneys! I have never seen, in 38 years, another yellow chimney
Log Cabin quilt! Created during the late 1880's with machine piecing
and hand quilting.
Each block measures 14" X 14", the chimneys are 3" x 3", the "logs"
are between 1-1/2" and 1-1/4" in width and 3" to 14" in length. The 1/4"
binding was turned over from the back to the front and also finished by
treadle machine. The backing is a tiny black and white check.
Now hand washed, using organic products, this wonderful quilt is ready
to be sent on approval with free shipping.
