The practice of inserting advertising, in the form of flannels, in tobacco products and packaging was most popular between 1910 and 1916. These inserts or premiums were very popular as collectible items to people of all ages. Women in particular were encouraged by tobacco company literature to create items for the home out of the various flannels and silks found in tobacco product packaging. This wonderful quilt top is made from tobacco flannels depicting various country flags carefully treadle machine sewn together. Flannels measure 6 7/8 x 10 3/8. In excellent condition and ready to be finished into a quilt or to hang as graphic wall art.
