Today's colors in an Antique quilt top that is over 150 years old! Here is a variation of a design formation that was used in the early 1800s. I wonder if this maker worked in a textile factory and came home with samples of a huge array of designs in brown...The 1870's was the decade where brown was the most popular color ...there are only so many colors and eras repeat the past. Even though this is not a charm quilt, there are dozens of different brown prints, in a variety of shades. The rows of 2-3/4" x 4-1/2" "sideway bricks" for lack of a better term..are joined by a 2-3/4" c.1845 strip of a print that is a stripe/calico of grays, white and black...with a feeling of gray tones!

All hand pieced...this top has a few spots and one mouse hole :-(...One could remove the bottom row and use that fabric to fix where needed. We find this top to be so pleasing to look at.
