What a treasure to find a C.1855 quilt top for you to finish. The way these blocks are laid out is one I have never seen, therefore I am going to go out on a limb and say this is an original design.

Completely hand pieced from fabrics dating from 1855 or earlier. This configuration is really stunning. The pieced blocks measure apx. 8-1/2" X 8-1/2", while the plain blocks are apx. 6-1/2" X 6-1/2". There are two outer borders. The inner border measures 1" in width and was created from a continuous row of triangles that measure 2" x 1-1/4" X 1-1/4". This rows calico fabrics are an early over-dyed green calico. The outer row is 2" in width with triangles all around measuring 4" X 3" x 3". These triangles were created from matter dye and are a matter dyed calico. One of the longer sides have an extra row of larger triangles. Could this have been to create a different bottom border? Today it can be whatever makes you smile 🙂 Perfect for any home, either modern or traditional...the crowning gem is that it will fit today's size beds!

In perfect condition and ready to be quilted. I am happy to send, with free shipping, for your approval.
